THE NEW YORK CITY CONCOURS DEBUTS 5 OCTOBER

ON MANHATTAN’S ROOFTOP AT PIER 17 WITH ICONIC CARS, MUSIC & POP CULTURE

First-of-its-Kind Hybrid Car Show/Cultural Event

A Portion of the Proceeds will be Donated to The Madison Square Boys & Girls Club

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (20 August 2019) – Despite the grand automotive showcases that are Pebble Beach, and Amelia, there is a hole in the concours d’elegance universe, a need to cultivate a tribe of younger, hipper car buffs and enthusiasts who don’t feel fully served by these great classic concours. They’re out there! The New York City Concours (TNYCC) is aimed at filling this void. Showcasing 30 iconic classic cars accompanied by live music and lifestyle curations with an edgy pop culture influence, the inaugural event will be held on Saturday, 5 October 2019 on the Rooftop at Pier 17, the City’s hottest venue in the Seaport District. The waterfront venue on the East River offers unequaled views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and 360º views of the famed Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines.

This first-of-its-kind event is being produced by Maria JannaceSocial_Post, head of New York City-based Maxim Creative Group and Maxim Sports Management. “We have set a path to become one of the world’s premier concours events,” says Jannace. “New York may be known for its subways, yellow cabs and Ubers, but metro New York has as much of a car culture as Southern California. As a native New Yorker, I designed this event to be ‘pure New York,’ capturing the hipness, glamour and grit that is this city.”

All concours start with the cars, of course. The New York City Concours will turn a high-end car show into a celebration of the automobile’s place in society, including pop culture. Jannace has partnered with noted automobile restorer Tom Papadopoulos owner of Autosport Designs (a Long Island automotive shop world renowned for its concours-winning restorations) to help curate the event and head TNYCC selection committee. The challenge: selecting 30 cars spanning the 1950s through 1990s, seasoned with a few pre-war surprises, that are rare, seldom-seen in public and fitting to the stylish, urban setting.

“The quality of cars we are considering is simply staggering, truly the best of the best,” says Papadopoulos. “The cars we will showcase were designed to make anyone stop dead in their tracks when new, and still do today.”  Jannace adds, “we want to expand the opportunity of these rarely seen classic cars to a wider and dare we say it, younger audience in a much more approachable and relevant experience while respecting and reinvigorating the passion of the established car collectors. We want to bring the concours into the 21st century, and New York City is the perfect place to do it.”

The full list of cars will be announced on TNYCC website TheNYCConcours.com in mid September.

The Pier Village, a collection of waterfront restaurants by culinary powerhouses on the first two floors of Pier 17, welcomed its first restaurant with the opening of Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s seafood restaurant followed by openings from David Chang of the Momofuku Group, Helene Hendersonof Malibu Farm, and Andrew Carmellini. Pier 17 is home to ESPN’s new live broadcast studios, which opened in April 2018.
